Nate is the Fastest-Moving Hurricane Recorded in the Gulf of Mexico

Nate is the fastest hurricane to move through the Gulf of Mexico, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

“Nate’s 28 mph forward motion, in the last 12 hours, is the fastest recorded forward motion of a Hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico,” the NWS said Saturday on Twitter.


As of 4 p.m. Saturday, the hurricane was moving at 28 miles per hour toward the Gulf Coast.

Nate is expected to make landfall Saturday night as a category 1 hurricane.
