Nate Strengthens to a Category One Hurricane
Nate is now a category one hurricane churning in the southern Gulf of Mexico.
An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft reported hurricane-force winds in the center of Nate estimated at 75 mph with even higher gusts.
Nate is located approximately 95 miles WNW of the western tip of Cuba and is about 495 miles SSE of the mouth of the Mississippi River.
A Hurricane Warning remains in effect from Grand Isle, Louisiana to the Alabama/Florida border as well as metropolitan New Orleans and Lake Pontchartrain.
A Hurricane Watch is in effect for Lake Maurepas, east of the Alabama/Florida border to the Okaloosa/Walton County Line, and west of Grand Isle to Morgan City, Louisiana.
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Punta Herrero to Rio Lagartos, Mexico, Pinar del Rio, Cuba, Lake Maurepas, west of Grand Isle to Morgan City Louisiana, east of the Alabama/Florida border to the Okaloosa/Walton County Line.
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for east of the Okaloosa/Walton County Line to Indian Pass, Florida, west of Morgan City to Intracoastal City, Louisiana, and Isle of Youth Cuba.
