New England: Stay Indoors and Do Not Travel

Pic 1Winter Storm Warnings and Blizzard Warnings remain in effect today through Sunday night/Monday morning from Connecticut and Rhode Island north through Massachusetts and New Hampshire on into Maine.

A strong area of low pressure will not only bring accumulating snow to the states listed above but will bring strong winds as well gusting up to 75 mph at times. The heaviest snowfall and strongest winds should move through Sunday morning. Highest snow amounts can be expected along and east of I-95 in Maine including Bangor where 18 to 26 inches of snow may fall. Coastal locations can expect to deal with the strongest winds.

Travel is not advised throughout New England from this afternoon on through tomorrow due to accumulating snow, blowing and drifting snow, low visibility, and strong winds. These weather conditions will make travel extremely dangerous with some roads becoming impassable.

High winds and extreme cold will combine to make it feel like it’s well below zero outside. Be ready for power outages and make sure your home and your car are prepared for the cold and snow. Spending any time outside is unadvised due to the high risk of hypothermia and frost bite.
