Next Week’s Weather: Flipping the Script

9 May 2017, 2:18 pm

Ready for some May-like warmth out East? It’s on its way.

The Climate Prediction Center (CPC)’s 8-14 day outlook features a couple of interesting hotspots in next week’s weather pattern. Overall, it’s a pretty strong flip from the current pattern, showing cooler, wetter weather across the West Coast and drier, warmer weather across the central and eastern parts of the country.

A ‘ridge’ of high pressure should allow the drier weather to settle in across the Midwest and East Coasts, while a ‘trough’ across the West will allow a wetter, cooler pattern to persist for the western third of the country.

Currently, it’s the East that’s on the cooler side of things with frost and freeze advisories still in place across parts of the region. The West saw warmer weather over the weekend, but it’s currently in a bit of a cooler pattern.
