Officials combined efforts to fight two wildfires east of Portland, Oregon, in the Columbia River Gorge on Wednesday, September 6.
The Eagle Creek and Indian Creek fires have burned a combined 31,000 acres and spread 15 miles Tuesday, a news report said.
Evacuation orders were in place in several towns in Multnomah County, and a portion of I-84 remained closed. The fire had spread into Washington on Tuesday.
Oregon State Police said they identified a 15-year-old from Vancouver, Washington, as the person who started the Eagle Creek Fire with fireworks. Police said they were seeking additional witnesses of the incident.
The gorge will remain equally beautiful if not more so after this fire. In my eyes, at least. Forgive me for being an optimist. It seems like some people have the idea that the gorge is ruined but am I alone when saying change brings great things. I guess it depends on everyone's personal perception and experience. No, this should not have happened in the first place but it is happening. #columbiarivergorge #pnw #eaglecreek #bonnivilledam #vistahouse #ellowahfalls #multnomahfalls
