According to the US National Weather Service in Elko, NV, Cloud iridescence or ‘rainbow clouds’ are visible when high clouds, usually altocumulus or cirrocumulus, composed of ice crystals and/or small water droplets diffract the light through the crystals, thus forming the rainbow appearance. Also, depending on where the sun is located, this could be something entirely different, but most likely this is cloud iridescence.
