Potential Christmas Snowstorm for the Ohio Valley and Northeast

19 Dec 2017, 5:05 pm

Looking ahead to the forecast for Christmas, there could be a strong weather system moving through the Ohio Valley and eventually the Northeast.  There will be plenty of question marks with this system, but it’s definitely looking very interesting.

System Track

A low pressure system moving through the Ohio Valley over the weekend will bring rain and precipitation to the northeast for the Christmas Day.  Areas on the west side of this low are looking at heavy snow chances…and areas on the east side of this system are looking at the potential for heavy rain.

Temperature Forecast

Here is a look at the high temperature forecast for Christmas.  Temperatures will be well above freezing for areas closer to the shore and this will limit the amount of snow.  Areas on the west side of this system will be dealing with a high snow chance as temperatures will be closer to freezing (32° F).

Accumulation Forecast

The accumulation numbers will change as we get closer to this possible event.  If the track of this system moves more to the east, the snowfall will be more widespread. If the track of this system moves more to the west, the rainfall chances will be much higher for the northeast.
