Tropical Update: 50% chance for tropical development over the next 5 days.

A large area of cloudiness and showers extending from the Cayman Islands to the Florida Straits is associated with a broad surface trough interacting with an upper-level low over the Gulf of Mexico. An area of low pressure will likely develop from this low pressure system while it moves towards the east coast of Florida during the next few days. It will move into a favorable environment for development, but upper-level winds become less favorable early next week. Even if this system doesn’t take on tropical storm characteristics, it will likely produce heavy rainfall over Cuba, Florida and the northwest Bahamas during the next several days.

The Weather Nation team will be watching this system very closely and will keep you updated on-air and online with the very latest developments.
