President Signs Disaster Declaration

9 Oct 2016, 7:38 pm

The President yesterday declared a major disaster exists in the State of Georgia and Florida, and ordered Federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area affected by Hurricane Matthew beginning October 4, 2016, and continuing.

Federal funding is available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work in the counties of Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Glynn, Liberty, and McIntosh.

FEMA said that damage surveys are continuing in other areas, and more counties and additional forms of assistance may be designated after the assessments are fully completed.

As of Sunday evening, there were 19 fatalities, with 8 of those reported in North Carolina. Continue to check back to WeatherNation for the latest information.
