Across the upper Midwest and the northeastern United States summer has been effectively been extended. The heat wave ongoing in the eastern US is remarkable and in some cases unprecedented, with places like Chicago shooting for a week straight of record setting temperatures.
With a slow moving cold front across the central US and a high pressure ridge across the eastern US many long standing temperatures records have been surpassed and others will be in jeopardy Tuesday and Wednesday.
Record heat will again be in place on Tuesday from Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and across the northeastern US. Many schools dealing with the record setting heat cancelled school or implemented early dismissal on Monday and may do the same on Tuesday.
On Wednesday more records could fall in Pennsylvania, New York, New Hampshire and Vermont before colder air moves in.
