Record Rainfall Smacks the Gulf Coast

An area of low pressure in the Gulf of Mexico continues to bring heavy rainfall to Alabama, Florida and Georgia. But Sunday brought a deluge leading to record rainfall around Mobile, Alabama, shattering their old record. According to the National Weather service, some places in Mobile County experienced almost ten inches of rain.
Emergency Management reported 21 homes with minor flooding, seven business flooded and 14 families were being sheltered due to the Flash Flooding in the Pascagoula and Moss Point areas of Jackson County, Mississippi.

The big surge of tropical moisture is flowing in from the Gulf. Heavy pockets of rain will still create the potential for flash flooding Monday and Tuesday. A flash flood watch is in effect for many coastal counties until Tuesday evening. Two to four inches of rain are possible with some isolated spots picking up close to eight inches. Some storms may turn strong near the coast and we’re not ruling out a few storms reaching severe limits. Small Craft Advisories are also in effect. Dangerous surf conditions and rip currents are expected along area beaches through Tuesday. Also, tidal rises possibly one foot above predicted levels can be expected through early Tuesday morning.
