Record Temperature Setting Weekend in Store for Northwest

20 Aug 2016, 1:09 pm

Sunny skies but extreme heat will be the big weather story for the Pacific Northwest this weekend. Heat advisories and excessive heat warnings have been in place since mid-week and will continue possibly into the upcoming work week.

Excessive Heat

Public health officials are stressing safety to avoid heat-related illness. Seek air-conditioned buildings, stay hydrated, as well as monitor others. Those are just a few of the tips that have been given to get through the blistering hot weekend.

Just to put into perspective how hot exactly it has been, take a look at the record highs that were broken on Friday.

Saturday’s day time high temperatures don’t look any better though. Portland could potentially break another record, not to mention they will almost be 20 degrees above normal for this time of the year.

When will the extreme heat end? In short, on Monday. A small dip in the jet stream will allow cooler air to funnel in and bring minimal relief by Sunday but much more seasonable temperatures by Monday.
