The Rey fire burning in Santa Barbara County has now charred 23,546 acres and is 20-percent contained, with 1,290 fire personnel battling the fire that started on Thursday August 18.
The smoke is creating air quality issues across the San Joaquin Valley. An air quality alert was issued, and will be in effect until Tuesday afternoon. Residents are advised to use caution as conditions warrant. People with heart or lung diseases should follow their doctors advice for dealing with episodes of unhealthy air quality.
The cause of this fire is still under investigation.
