San Francisco hit 106º fahrenheit on Friday, setting the all day record for warmest day in recorded history.

How Rare is it?
Using just your two hands (and a toe), you can count out the times the city known for its fog has hit the century mark.

Why?
A massive ridge of high pressure over the western U.S. is to blame for the recent heat wave.

This also means that there is another day of heat in store for the western states.
