Scorching Temperatures Smash Records Across West

Another day of scorching temperatures across much of the West smashed records from Oregon to Arizona on Saturday, with more extreme heat likely on Sunday.

Phoenix, Arizona hit 115° on Saturday, making it the earlier 115° reading ever recorded in the city and setting a new daily record. Portland, Oregon (97°) also set a new daily record by a full six degrees. Yuma, Arizona hit 116°, also broke a daily record and Fresno (105°) and Bakersfield, California (107°) both tied records as well on Saturday afternoon.

One more day of widespread excessive heat is expected across the West on Sunday before temperatures slowly begin to creep back closer to seasonal averages.

Remember to take frequent water breaks, limit outdoor activity and to wear light-colored clothing in extreme heat situations.
