Severe Storms Possible in the Northeast

30 May 2017, 1:08 pm

Showers and thunderstorms have been developing in the Northeast this afternoon and additional development is likely through this evening. There is a slight risk for severe weather from around Chesapeake Bay to Lake Ontario, with a marginal risk in the Central Plains and Coastal Louisiana. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch continues in New York and Pennsylvania and more watches are possible through tonight.

The tornado risk is low for this afternoon and evening. Large hail more than an inch in diameter and wind gusts greater than 60 mph are the biggest severe weather threats through tonight.

Showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop ahead of a cold front into this evening. A line of storms will be forming and will be strongest throughout sunset. Storms will diminish for the overnight.

The severe weather threat looks lower Wednesday and Thursday with a few areas seeing marginal severe weather chances.
