The threat for severe thunderstorms continues into this evening along the East Coast, especially in the Northeast. An enhanced risk for severe weather extends from near Boston, through New York and Philadelphia, to south of Washington, D.C.
Wind gusts above 60 mph are the biggest threat. There is a lower chance for large hail and tornadoes.
A cold front continues to slowly push eastward this afternoon. Most of the storms will move offshore late tonight after sunset, extending out into the Atlantic Ocean.
The severe thunderstorm risk returns to the Plains for Tuesday and Wednesday. A slight risk is focused on Kansas Tuesday. The threat area shifts into the Northern and Central Plains on Wednesday.
