Severe Thunderstorms Possible to Start the Week in the Southern U.S.
There is a risk for severe thunderstorms into this evening in West Texas and eastern sections of New Mexico. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has already been issued for the region and additional watches are likely through the evening.
The tornado potential is low through the evening, with strong wind gusts and large hail the biggest concern. Hail larger than an inch and wind gusts over 60 mph are possible with severe cells tonight.
A cold front is pushing southward into the region as a dry line becomes active, moving slowly east. Storms will likely become more widespread this evening, before diminishing overnight.
The severe thunderstorm risk for Tuesday moves into South Texas as the front gradually moves to the south. On Wednesday, the threat area shifts into Central Florida.
