Severe Weather Chances Ahead From the Front Range to the Plains

9 May 2017, 2:29 pm

Severe thunderstorms have already been developing today from the Front Range into the South with more development likely into tonight. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch continues into this evening for portions of New Mexico and Colorado. A slight risk for severe weather extends into the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles.

Large hail will be the biggest concern into tonight, as was the case Monday. Isolated severe cells may create strong wind gusts or a tornado.

A stalled front and slow moving low pressure center will be the focus for storms throughout the day. A weak trough extending to the south will also create severe storms that will push out into the Plains late tonight.

The system will slowly shift to the east on Wednesday. Severe thunderstorm chances will expand throughout the Plains from Illinois to Texas.

On Thursday, the Arklatex region has a slight risk for severe thunderstorms.
