Severe Weather Possible in the Plains and Great Lakes

28 Jun 2017, 4:18 pm

Severe thunderstorms have been moving through the Northern Plains and Great Lakes over the last 24 hours. Tornado Watches have already been issued in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, and Missouri.

The risk for severe thunderstorms today extends from near Lake Michigan to Kansas. A few tornadoes are possible this evening, with touchdowns already reported in Iowa and Wisconsin. Strong wind gusts and large hail are a concern later tonight.

A cold front and low pressure center dropping to the south will continue to produce thunderstorms tonight, some becoming severe. Storms will begin to diminish in intensity during the overnight.

Much of the Central Plains and Ohio Valley have a risk for severe thunderstorms on Thursday. That area shifts into Lower Michigan Friday.
