Sierra Snow and Coastal Rain for California
A round of snow and rain is moving through California to end the work week. Winter weather alerts continue in the Sierra Nevada Mountains through Saturday as heavy snow is expected. Rain will fall along the coast as the storm system moves through the state.
More than a foot of snow is possible for the highest mountain peaks, generally above 7,000 feet. The foothills will likely see 6″ to 12″ of snow. Rain will fall for coastal areas.
The storm system is moving through the West, with a cold front sliding from Montana to California. It will produce areas of rain and snow, along with another system approaching the Pacific Northwest.
As the cold front shifts eastward, the precipitation gradually diminish Friday night into early Saturday across the Sierra Nevada. The Cascades, Rockies and Wasatch will still see areas of moisture to start the weekend.
WeatherNation will have updates on the rain and snow in California and across the West. Check back with us on-air and online.
