Sizzling Temperatures Continue in the Southwest
Another day of oppressive heat is being felt in the Southwest with readings today surging again into the triple digits. Several areas are above 110 degrees. Seven states are under Excessive Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories, with temperatures 10 to 20 degrees above normal.
Phoenix set a record of 119 degrees on Tuesday, only 3 degrees shy of an all time record. Readings will gradually drop back slowly through the 110s into next week.
Las Vegas tied its all time record high on Tuesday at 117 degrees. It will be almost as hot today and Thursday. Readings finally falling below 110 early next week
Tucson will likely avoid their hottest all time temperature during this heat wave, but readings will remain well above average into next week.
Denver set a record high on Tuesday of 98 degrees and the thermometer may reach the century point today. Temperatures will cool into the 70s this weekend in the mile high city.
The mercury will remain above the century point in several states on Thursday and Friday, although temperatures may drop back a few degrees away from record levels in Arizona.
