More Snow Ahead For the High Plains and Western Mountains
Another wave of snow will spread across the Cascades and Sierra into the Upper Midwest over the next couple of days. Winter Storm Warnings have been issued for parts of six states, with Winter Weather Advisories for portions of 10 states from Minnesota to the Pacific Coast. The heaviest accumulations are likely near the Continental Divide in Montana and Glacier National Park where totals may approach 2 feet, making roads impassable in some areas. Wind gusts above 30 mph in some areas will produce significant blowing and drifting snow.
A strong low pressure center will move from Washington tonight into South Dakota by Wednesday night. A second low will form to the south, east of the Rockies in Colorado Wednesday afternoon. Heavy snow will expand from the Cascades and Sierra across the Wasatch and into the Tetons and Rockies over the next 48 hours. Be sure to check ahead on travel conditions as the snow accumulates and moves eastward.
