More Snow Ahead in the Mountains and Front Range

28 Apr 2017, 10:26 am

Late season skiers are happy as fresh powder is falling throughout the Rockies and Tetons, adding to the deep base found in most areas. Winter Storm Warnings are in effect from Montana to New Mexico. A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from the Panhandles of Texas and Oklahoma into Western Kansas and Eastern Colorado for the potential of heavy snow later this weekend.

Over the last few days, 1 to 2 feet of snow has fallen in the high country. Another foot may fall in the highest elevations, with significant snow developing in the Front Range and Western Plains this weekend.

Snow will continue to fall through the mountains tonight into Saturday. As a low pressure center develops Saturday and moves into the Plains, high country snow will diminish as snow increases to the east. Heavy, slushy snow will quickly accumulate from Western Kansas into Eastern Colorado, diminishing Sunday night.
