Snow in Unusual Places
Hello and happy Wednesday everyone. Unbelievably, most of us around the nation continue the “Arctic chill” headline and unfortunately it’s going to get worse before it gets better. Look at the watches and warnings map across the nation:
A widespread snow event across the nation’s mid-section will cause some issues on the roads today, especially in the red colored counties where blizzard warnings are in effect. Officials have already closed parts of I-90 from Rapid City, SD to Chamberlain, SD. Look at the road conditions/web cameras from the SD DOT. Visibilities are quite low with considerable blowing and drifting blocking lanes along that stretch. See more from the SD DOT here
Snow in Unusual Places:
Speaking of snow, there may be some minor accumulations across parts of the lower Mississippi Valley. Note the purple colored counties/perishes in the watches/warnings map below. These are Winter Weather Advisories, which is quite rare this far south, but not unheard of.
Some locations as far south as the Gulf Coast may see some flakes late Thursday night/early Friday morning. See the forecast map below:
Record Lows in Florida
Take a look at the image below. The picture of the left shows the Record Lows for Today’s Date for the specific locations and the image on the right shows the actual low temps recorded today. All the numbers circled in yellow are locations that either tied or set new record lows for today’s date:
Now that’s some COLD air for Florida!
Many are asking for Old Man Winter to turn the Arctic fans off – good news, we are getting indications that next week will be much warmer across a great deal of the nation. Hang in there!
