A fast moving low pressure center will bring a round of snowfall to the Midwest and Ohio Valley. Most totals will be in the 2″ to 4″ range, with isolated accumulations to 6″. Winter Storm Warnings have been issued for parts of eastern Iowa and west central Illinois, with Winter Weather Advisories over eight states. Even though snowfall totals may not reach warning criteria (6″+) over a widespread area, travel conditions will be impacted with slippery conditions and slowdowns.
Through midday, the snow will spread into Illinois from Iowa, South Dakota and Minnesota. As the cold front and low pressure center move east this evening, snow will push across Indiana, Ohio, and Lower Michigan. Lake enhancement will increase totals in western Lower Michigan closer to Lake Michigan.
Further south in Missouri, the air will be warm enough aloft for some light freezing drizzle to occur, but surface temperatures are expected to stay below freezing. Roadways may become very slippery with a light glaze ice into this evening.
A wintry mix of freezing drizzle and light snow will likely cause a light glazing of ice over parts of central, east central, & northeast MO as well as west central IL this afternoon & this evening. Roads & sidewalks will be slick. #stlwx #midmowx #mowx #ilwx pic.twitter.com/pCRZhuG2rL

Expecting some light freezing drizzle east of the KC Metro later this evening. Watch out for slick roads after 1 pm. New Year's Eve is still looking bitterly cold. Make arrangements to bundle up if you're planning to be outdoors. pic.twitter.com/kcFpxJO6lR
