Dear Southeast, Old Man Winter’s Coming For a Visit

Pic 3

It looks like it’s time for the southern part of the U.S. to get hit with a winter storm. A storm system will track east through the South on into the Southeast for the start of this new week. This system will include rain, a wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain, and snow. As of now, Winter Storm Watches are in effect from Oklahoma east into Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, and North Carolina. The watches are in effect starting late Sunday and will remain in effect on through Monday and Tuesday.

Two things to look out for here are accumulating snow and ice. Ice accumulation up to 1/4 of an inch is possible where freezing rain will fall. As of now, snow totals look to range anywhere from an inch in spots to as much as 6 inches in others. Power outages are likely due to ice, and travel will be hazardous due to both ice and snow.
