Severe flooding is occurring in West Virginia this evening, as 5 to 9 inches of rain has fallen today. This evening, an 8-year old boy died after  he was swept away by water. Another younger boy is also still being searched for in Jackson County near the Ohio River. Police say, a 2- to 4-year-old boy was swept away by swift waters outside the city of Ravenswood.

Governor Earl Ray Tomblin has issued a state of emergency declaration to 44 of the 55 counties in West Virginia, giving those areas access to state resources for response efforts to flooding. The heavy rain has caused rockslides, mudslides and flooding and damaged homes, businesses, roads and bridges.
