Strong Winds Batter Northeast Into Sunday Morning

18 Nov 2017, 7:55 pm

High wind alerts blanket the northeast through Sunday morning as winds are expected to reach 50-60 mph.

A strong storm system with an associated cold front will push off the coast early Sunday. Before the cold front passes, strong southwesterly winds may gust to 55 mph.

Considering many trees still have leaves, there is the potential of downed trees and power lines, leading to scattered power outages.

Please use caution if heading out early as there may be unexpected debris on the roads.

The strongest winds will occur before 6 a.m. Sunday and taper off through the morning as the front pushes east.

Temperatures will continue to cool through the day Sunday as gusty northwesterly winds usher in colder temperatures.

This will result in lake effect snow downwind of Lake Ontario and Lake Erie.

Gusty northwest winds will continue into Monday where temperatures remain a bit chilly, especially for the I-95 corridor.

This blast of winter chill will last through Monday before a brief warm up occurs on Tuesday.
