Strong Winds Blowing in the Northeast Today

2 Mar 2017, 10:24 am

Strong winds will be blowing through the Northeast today on the backside of a deep low pressure center. The wind has already peaked to near 50 mph in some areas and gusts to 60 mph are possible through this evening.

High Wind Warnings continue into this afternoon from Boston through the Jersey Shore. Trees, branches, limbs and power lines could be downed due to the brisk breeze. Scattered power outages may occur as well.

The strong winds will also usher in much colder air as temperatures tumble throughout the week. 40 to 60 mph wind gusts will continue throughout the day.

Wind Advisories extended across much of the rest of the Northeast and extended southward down the Appalachians.

The strong storm system will move northward into Canada throughout the afternoon. As the low pressure center moves away from the Eastern Seaboard, the wind will start to diminish later tonight.
