Top Weather Stories for October 2, 2017

Plenty of weather going on across the country today.  Heavy snow, flooding and severe thunderstorms are at the top of the list. Here is the very latest!

HEAVY SNOW

Heavy snow is the big weather story for the northern and central Rockies Monday and Tuesday.

MONTANA
A large trough and very cold temperatures will come together over Montana today and this will likely lead to a heavy snow event.

Winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories for central and northern Montana through Tuesday morning.

COLORADO

It is not only heavy snow in the northern Rockies, but also heavy snow in the central Rockies too. Colorado and southern Wyoming will continue to see heavy snow through Tuesday morning.  Expect difficult driving conditions in these areas with near whiteout conditions in the forecast today and tonight.

 

COASTAL FLOODING FOR THE GULF COAST

A trough of low pressure in the northern Gulf of Mexico will bring strong easterly winds to the southern Mississippi and southeastern Louisiana coasts. Strong easterly and southeasterly winds and tides will lead to flooding, especially in the low lying areas.

HEAVY RAIN AND SEVERE CHANCES IN THE CENTRAL PLAINS AND UPPER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY

A strong cold front will bring storm storm chances to the Central Plains and the Upper Mississippi Valley.  The highest risk for severe weather will be mainly in western Kansas and south-central Nebraska. Large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes will be possible on top of very heavy rain.
