1 Mar 2017, 4:30 pm

A spring-like system has killed at least three people in the Midwest Tuesday night. More than 20 unconfirmed tornadoes were reported overnight and into early Wednesday morning in Illinois, Tennessee, Missouri, Arkansas and Indiana.

One of the more significant tornadoes caused damage in Perryville, Missouri, Tuesday night. The tornado crossed the interstate north of the city, sending cars from a nearby salvage yard across the freeway. Perryville police said one person is dead, 10 others are injured, and everyone else is accounted for after the storm. Police say about 10 homes were damaged in the Perryville city limits.

The National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky sent multiple survey teams out to assess the damage left behind from the tornadoes.

As of Wednesday evening, preliminary data suggest that at least 22 tornadoes occurred Tuesday evening. Preliminary ratings also indicate that Crossville, Illinois and Poseyville, Indiana will have a rating of an EF-3. The National Weather Service said that the surveys will continue into Thursday.
