After soaking the Yucatan Peninsula Tropical Storm Franklin is now back in open water in the Bay of Campeche where it is expected to gain strength on its westerly trek toward another landfall in Mexico early Thursday. Franklin will make is second landfall south of Tampico and north of Veracruz, Mexico, early Thursday morning, possibly as a category 1 hurricane. This would make it the first Atlantic basin hurricane of the 2017 season.
The increased storm surge along the Mexican coast is a concern, but a greater concern may be the heavy rain Franklin with bring the the more mountainous areas inland.
Hurricane watches and tropical storm warnings have been issued for the areas of concern in Franklin’s path.
