Update: More Rain for Flood-Weary Florida

The Sunshine State will have a hard time living up to its nickname this week as a slow-moving tropical area of low pressure continues to pound portions of the state with heavy rain.

Since Sunday, Florida’s big bend region has received more than half a foot of moisture. Flood Watches and Warnings have been issued as more rain is still expected. Spring Hill will be under a Flood Watch through Tuesday evening and a Flood Watch for Tallahassee runs until Wednesday evening.

The low is expected to slowly drift to the west this week. Tuesday will bring more heavy rain to the big bend, but Wednesday will favor the Floridian panhandle. As the low continues to hang around the Gulf Coast, more showers and thunderstorms are likely through Saturday. Rain totals in the Florida Panhandle for the rest of the week will range from 4-8 inches with the heaviest amounts near the coast. Localized areas could see more than eight inches of rain.

If you encounter flooded roadways, always remember to turn around, don’t drown. Stay weather aware in this region and be ready to seek higher ground on short notice, especially in flood-prone areas.
