Upstate New York Snowfall

19 Nov 2017, 3:17 pm

It’s that time of year again!  Lake-effect snow season has kicked into high gear in many areas this weekend.  Favored areas of Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York downwind of the open waters of the Great Lakes experienced some locally heavy snow squalls Sunday.  More snow is likely into Monday, especially in Upstate New York.

The city of Syracuse and surrounding areas southeast of Lake Ontario can expect the highest snow totals by Monday night.  A general 4 to 7 inches are possible where Lake Effect Snow Warnings remain in place.  A few isolated spots may pick up as much as 10 inches.

Travel will be impacted by this latest round of lake-effect snow.  Snow squalls can quickly reduce visibility on highways in a matter of seconds.  Be prepared for winter driving conditions if you are near Lake Ontario and Lake Erie.  Plan to give yourself a little extra time Monday morning to reach your destination.
