Weather Creates Slippery Conditions – Two Planes Slide off O’Hare International Airport Runways

AA SlideA corporate jet slid off the end of the runway while landing Tuesday around noon, and a departing American Airlines plane slid minutes later, fire officials said, adding no passengers were injured.

Earlier today the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported: Winter weather will slow air traffic across the Midwest today. Wind, freezing rain and snow may slow flights in Chicago (MDW, ORD) while Detroit (DTW) could see several inches of snow by evening. High winds also might delay traffic along the East coast today, and cloud cover and thunderstorms are expected in Memphis (MEM). On the West Coast, low clouds could affect flight schedules in Los Angeles (LAX), San Diego (SAN) and San Francisco (SFO).

A Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman, said an Embraer Phenom E55P flown by private operator NetJets slid off a runway around 12 noon Tuesday.

A Chicago Aviation Department (CAD) spokeswoman, Karen Pride said the plane was headed to Executive Airport in Wheeling but landed at O’Hare.

A McDonnell Douglas MD-80 flight AA1051 just slid off taxiway at A6 intersection at Chicago O’Hare International Airport due to snow.

A Business jet slid off Runway at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. Runway 9L was closed due to Band of heavy snow.
