Weather Service Confirms Tornado Touched Down in Iowa Over the Weekend
Scattered showers and thunderstorms tracked across portions of eastern Iowa and northern Illinois the evening of April 15, as a cold front pushed east across Iowa. Large hail, heavy downpours, and frequent lightning were common as the storms rolled through.
The National Weather Service surveyed damage in west central Jones County on Monday. They have confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down in the area on Saturday night.
The tornado touched down just east of Highway 151, northeast of Anamosa, near 180th Avenue. It then traveled east to near Amber Road where it caused damage to several farm buildings. Pieces of a roof where removed, and some structures had walls that were brought down. It then moved northeast and destroyed buildings around 150th Avenue. Winds were estimated to be at 100 mph. There were no injuries.
Additional severe weather, including the threat of tornadoes will be possible from Iowa into Illinois on Wednesday.
