Weather Weather Everywhere
Hello and happy Tuesday everyone – I hope you are having a wonderful week so far. Good news… we’re finally going to warm up! It’s in the works for the rest of the week, so get ready. Unfortunately, the cold weather has left a mess across the southeast where the prolonged cold weather is always a problem. Power outages, pipes bursting and significant crop losses are headlines for those who can’t wait to see the return of ‘average’ temperatures. Preliminary damage reports are coming in from Florida and it’s not all duckies and bunnies. The 9.3 billion dollar industry is saying that there is “Significant” crop losses with as much as 7% to 10% of the harvest a total loss and the full extent to the damage won’t be known for an additional week or two. The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates that this years Florida orange crop may be the second smallest in a decade. Just to give you an idea of how widespread this will be, listen to these stats: 75% of America’s oranges come from Florida and 40% of the world’s orange juice supply comes from Florida! The extreme cold chilled tropical fish ponds enough to where 70% of the population is now dead! Yes, we may all be paying more for guppies now at the local pet shop over the coming weeks/months. Also, the Florida iguana has been reported falling out of trees! The cold weather makes them go to sleep/hibernate and fall from their treetop perch when temperatures drop into the subfreezing range. Locals have been helping them out by using hair dryers to warm them up, only to fall asleep again when temperatures fall to critical values. It’s not like Floridians haven’t dealt with the cold before, but it’s the duration of the cold snap that has everybody reeling. Most folks who have been through long cold snaps before are saying they’ve never experienced anything like it before!

Thinking Warm Thoughts – Maybe A Little Too Warm??
It is definitely summer in Australia… Get this, the overnight low temperature in Melbourne Australia on Monday was 93 degrees. That’s the warmest low temperature observed there in 108 years!
Opening Ceremony One Month From Today!
Winter Olympics begin on this day, one month from today! The Olympic Torch is currently in Saskatchewan Canada, tomorrow it will be in Edmonton Alberta. Unfortunately, the Whistler Mountain communities were closed due to heavy rain and unseasonably warm temperatures on Monday. Nightmare conditions for Olympic organizers, indeed. The good news is that there are 270 snow guns at their disposal if conditions call for extra snow. I’m sure there will be no shortage of snow this year. Real or man made, there will be no shortage of snow this year.
Ok, well… Hope you enjoyed the weather weather everywhere. Don’t forget to check back often. We’ll keep things interesting, I promise… I’m a weatherman 🙂
Enjoy the rest of your Tuesday,
