Well That Escalated Quickly! Peak of Hurricane Season.

14 Aug 2017, 9:06 pm

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30 each year.  This time frame encompass over 97% of tropical activity in the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. Tropical storms and hurricanes can and do occur outside the season but most of the activity happens from August through October.

Over the six month long tropical season, about 80% of tropical activity happens August through October. During this time frame we see 78% of the tropical storm days, 87% of the minor hurricane days, and 96% of the major hurricane days in the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico.

The very peak of the season is on average around the 10th of September but October can be busy too, with a secondary peak mid month.
