Wicked Wind Chill

24 Dec 2017, 4:16 pm

Brutally cold temperatures and life-threatening wind chill values will grip the northern Plains and Upper Midwest through Christmas.

Wind Chill Warnings are posted far to the north, including parts of Montana, North Dakota, and Minnesota (where it could feel as cold as 45 degrees below zero).  A bit further south into South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Michigan, Wind Chill Advisories are in place.

The extremely cold temperatures are here to stay for much of the week ahead.  Single digit highs and subzero lows are in the forecast.

The coldest wind chill values, as you might guess, will occur after dark and before sunrise.  Still, even afternoon wind chill values will likely stay below zero in many areas.

Be sure to avoid the outdoors for prolonged periods of time.  It could take as little as 10 minutes for frostbite to settle in.  If you do need to venture outside, bundle up with extra layers.  Or even better, just stay indoors and have a warm Christmas!
