Wind Chill Alerts from the Northern Plains to New England
Record setting cold temperatures have settled across much of the northern tier of the nation. Several record lows were set this morning, especially across the Great Lakes.
Wind chill alerts have been issued for tonight into Friday for the Northeast and Upper Midwest. Wind chills will fall to 20 below or colder in many areas.
The bitter cold air has pushed through northern New England, with temperatures plummeting well below zero tonight. The dangerously cold wind chills will cause frostbite in as little as 10 minutes to exposed skin. Make sure you wear a hat and gloves. Carry a winter survival kit if traveling, and have enough layers of clothes with you for temperatures outside of the vehicle. Hypothermia can occur if precautions are not taken.
