Wind Damage Concerns Tonight in the Central Plains

15 Jun 2017, 4:29 pm

Severe weather reports were once again spread across the country over the last 24 hours. Nearly 2 dozen reports of wind damage were received in Alabama from a cluster of thunderstorms. Golf ball to baseball size hail fell in the Central Plains and that area is the main focus for severe weather again tonight.

There is a moderate risk for severe thunderstorms in the Central Plains, with an enhanced risk into the Texas Panhandle. Severe Thunderstorm Watches extend from Kansas and Texas to Alabama and Georgia.

Strong wind gusts greater than 70 mph are the biggest concern in Kansas tonight, centered close to the Wichita area. Large hail greater than a quarter is possible through the Plains. The tornado risk is low.

A dry line and low pressure center will be the focus for the severe weather in the Plains tonight. A cold front stretching throughout the Tennessee Valley into the Gulf of Mexico will create additional severe storms in the Southeast.

The severe weather threat will continue across the Plains for Friday and Saturday.
