Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

<h2>Eastern Pacific Ocean</h2>The 2025 Eastern Pacific hurricane season is off to a record-breaking start, with four named storms: Alvin, Barbara, Cosme, and now Dalila. This level of early activity is well ahead of the seasonal average, which typically sees the first named storm by June 10, the second by June 24, and the third by July 6. Dalila forming on the 13th marked the fastest four storms to be named in the basin since record keeping began, beating 1974, which saw Dolores form by the 14th of June.Dalila is battering the coast of SW Mexico and strengthening in a favorable environment. Conditions will begin to improve Sunday as Dalila moves away from the coast.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/1-1749956406725.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/2-1749956413150.png">Tropical Storm warnings are now in effect for areas west of Acapulco, Mexico. Forecasts do not anticipate Dalila intensifying beyond a tropical storm, but we will watch trends as it moves west.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Day1SVR-1749938742492.png"><img src="https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/storm_graphics/EP04/refresh/EP0425INTQPF+gif/131731INTQPF_sm.gif" alt="[Image of rainfall potential]"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-13 121944-1749838800070.png"><h2>Looking Ahead</h2>As we look ahead, the Climate Prediction Center is highlighting a region (below) with low confidence in the formation of a tropical system in the western Caribbean or southwestern Gulf, also known as the Bay of Campeche. This does not indicate a system is expected, so be sure to stay up to date with the 7-Day forecast from the National Hurricane Center.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-11 044338-1749638755094.png">A system in the Gulf or western Atlantic is not unusual in June, which typically has warmer water early in the season compared to the main development region (MDR) in the Atlantic (between the Caribbean and west Africa).The Atlantic hurricane season, which began on June 1, has remained quiet with no named storms forming so far. This lack of activity is being attributed to three key atmospheric factors: persistent wind shear, marginally warm water temperatures, and the presence of Saharan dust. &nbsp;<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/05/Screenshot 2025-05-29 104826-1748537463299.png">The Saharan dust, which often travels westward from Africa, can suppress tropical development by introducing dry, stable air into the atmosphere. In addition, wind shear is disrupting the organization of tropical waves and disturbances, preventing them from developing into more significant systems. While sea surface temperatures are warm enough to support storm formation, they are not as favorable as in recent years, further limiting activity.&nbsp;Unlike the Atlantic, the Eastern Pacific is not affected by Saharan dust, as the dust tends to move northward toward the U.S. before it can interfere with conditions in that region. As a result, the Eastern Pacific remains more conducive to early-season development. In fact, forecasters are currently monitoring the region for another potential tropical cyclone, which has a high chance of forming within the next seven days.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/New Baron Video 3-1749956522318.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Although the Atlantic is off to a slow start, this is not unusual for early June. Historically, tropical activity in the Atlantic does not typically ramp up until later in the summer, particularly in August and September, with the peak occurring around the 15th of September.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Day1SVR-1749823458384.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/05/Screenshot 2025-05-29 104849-1748537876634.png">For now, the quiet beginning to the season is considered perfectly normal.&nbsp;The early season will more often see more tropical storms than hurricanes, but hurricanes can form and impact the United States, so it's <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.weathernationtv.com/news/hurricane-prep-week-2025">always best to be prepared</a>. An upper-level ridge of high pressure has been responsible for record-breaking highs across the northwest earlier this week, as many records were set on Monday and again on Tuesday. The above-average temperatures have helped fuel strong storms.<h2>SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOKS</h2><h1>OVERNIGHT</h1>Saturday's risk begins to shift slightly farther east, maintaining a risk for scattered severe storms from Montana into Nebraska, with wind and hail damage as the primary hazards.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/1-1749956607701.png"><h1>Sunday</h1>On Sunday, the same real estate will have the chance of seeing strong to severe thunderstorms from the High Plains of Montana down into Nebraska. Destructive winds and hail will be the primary threats.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/1-1749956659135.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/1-1749956820140.png"><h3>FORECAST TIMING</h3>Storms will be most active in the afternoons, as moisture stuck along the east side of the Continental Divide turns into strong updrafts as daytime heating builds. While a few storms will persist into the overnight hours, most areas will see quiet conditions overnight.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/New Baron Video 3-1749956891646.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Thunderstorms will be heavy enough to trigger isolated flash flooding, especially on Friday and Sunday. Here's what we're looking at for highs on Sunday.<h1>SWEATY DADS</h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Day1SVR-1749925772739.png">As a ridge of high pressure builds in the desert southwest, temperatures have started soaring. By Saturday and Sunday, areas like Phoenix will top out beyond 110°, prompting heat alerts. While this likely won't threaten any record highs for the area, it is still the hottest temperatures we've seen this year. Make sure Dad's drinking water early and often!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-13 081419-1749824085832.png">Extreme heat is expected in the southwest, but most of the country will be hot and muggy in the 80s and 90s. The exception will be the northeast, which is stuck in the cooler 60s.<h1>TOUGH TIME LIGHTING THE GRILL</h1>We're monitoring a few areas of low pressure that could rain on your Father's Day parade. The High Plains to Upper Midwest could see some strong to severe thunderstorms as back-to-back surface lows slide through. Lots of Gulf moisture will be moving through the heart of the country, fueling shower and thunderstorm chances from the Front Range of the Rockies to the Mississippi valley. Rounds of intense rainfall have impacted areas of the Southern Plains and Mississippi Valley this week, leading to significant flash flooding. San Antonio, TX recorded its second-wettest June day on record, and tenth wettest day of all time on Thursday. A rainfall record of over six inches of rain was observed in San Antonio, with much of the rain coming down in the early morning hours on Thursday.Friday saw record breaking rain in Central Louisiana, where 4-9 inches accumulated, mostly in the morning hours.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-14 054437-1749901483166.png">As we look ahead to the weekend, more severe storms and intense downpours will be possible across parts of the Central and Southern Plains. With the heating of the day and plenty of moisture, thunderstorms will get going in the afternoon and evening hours. The forecast models suggest that storms will cluster into a line of showers and thunderstorms at night and that can also bring severe weather hazards. Storms that form in the western Plains and along the front range are likely to congeal into big clusters of storms overnight, known as an MCS (mesoscale convective system). These clusters of storms are likely to produce some severe weather, including flash flooding.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/1-1749956113618.png"><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/New Baron Video 3-1749956178836.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Flash flooding is still a concern, especially with how saturated the grounds are. Heavier downpours could lead to flash flooding, especially in low-lying or already saturated areas.&nbsp;An additional 2-4" of rain is likely with isolated heavier totals.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/1-1749956228534.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/1-1749956256209.png">Stay weather-aware, especially during the late afternoon and nighttime hours. Make sure to have multiple ways to receive warnings and avoid driving through flooded roadways. With severe weather and flooding threats overlapping, Texans should prepare for possible power outages, road closures, and rapidly changing weather conditions.&nbsp;

JUNE 11, 2025The folks at Colorado State planned on updating the outlook today and they did - no changes. They're still expecting a ENSO neutral regime to persist through the Hurricane Season. That, with above average sea surface temperatures (but not as hot as last year) should still point to a busy season. Their next update to the outlook is scheduled for July 9, with another adjustment August 6. APRIL 3, 2025Today, meteorologists and research scientists at <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://tropical.colostate.edu/forecasting.html">Colorado State University (CSU)</a> have released their outlook for the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season. Dr. Phil Klotzbach and the Tropical Meteorology Project at CSU are among the first to issue an outlook for the season. Early predictions expect this year's hurricane season to be busier than average. This year they anticipate 17 named storms, 9 of which will become hurricanes and 4 of those are expected to become major hurricanes (CAT 3 or greater).<div data-youtube-video=""><iframe width="640" height="480" allowfullscreen="false" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/NpwxsMmHDIU" start="0"></iframe></div>Forecast factors that contributed to their above average outlook focus on the El Nino/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and sea surface temperatures. In the coming months, a transition to ENSO neutral is expected. That usually does not give a strong single for an above or below average season. However, by the end of the summer into early fall (climatological peak of hurricane season), a potential transition to La Nina is forecast. There is not much certainty on the likelihood or intensity of that La Nina transition, though. Nonetheless, an absence of El Nino which traditionally suppresses hurricane activity is enough to warrant an above average forecast.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-03 081623-1743689797271.png">Sea surface temperatures in the tropical Atlantic remain above average this year.
