ALASKA – Around 12:38 PM AKDT on July 16, a magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck about 50 miles south of Sand Point, Alaska, at a depth of approximately 12.5 miles.
According to the USGS, as of 5:00 PM AKDT, more than 20 aftershocks of magnitude 3.0 or higher had been recorded. The 7.3 quake also triggered tsunami warnings across parts of Alaska.
U.S. Coast Guard personnel from Base Kodiak responded to these alerts by evacuating to higher ground and deploying two ready aircrews.
