PHILADELPHIA - As the Philadelphia Eagles celebrate their championship on Thursday, Mother Nature will try to provide the fireworks. A powerful cold front is bringing record cold temperatures to those in the Midwest and Great Lakes will pivot eastward on Thursday. That could mean trouble for some outdoor activities. According to some local reports, the Eagles won't even be on the field for the ceremony. But with plenty of fans in the stands, we thought we'd take a look at the forecast for the afternoon.
As our cold front drops in, it will fire up a line of storms, that will be capable of producing gusty winds along the leading edge. Unfortunately for any ceremony-goers, it looks like the 5-8 PM ET window might be the easiest one for the storms to fit into. It doesn't have a ton of juice to work with, but there will be just enough combined with the strength of the front to keep the severe potential on the table.
The Storm Prediction Center is already monitoring the area for the threat of severe storms, with a wide area capable of picking up damaging winds. With plenty of lightweight objects to toss around, from the celebration to tailgating, higher winds would be unwelcome.
Storms will lean toward the evening hours, making a close call with the ceremonies.
Since the weather doesn't want to cooperate stateside, we get to try again Friday night with the runner-ups down in Sao Paulo. Couldn't have drawn it up any better. Chef's kiss, pun intended.
