Meteorologist Jesse Kelley is excited to join the talented staff at Weather Nation. Jesse spent most of his childhood in Birmingham, Alabama. The state of Alabama is prone to seeing various types of weather from severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and winter weather. For college, Jesse attended the University of South Alabama where he received his degree in Broadcast Meteorology along with minors in Math and Geography. From Alabama, Jesse started his broadcast television working three years at KAVU-TV in Victoria. Recently, he finished a stint in Shreveport, LA. The much anticipated cold front to slash temperatures is now moving through the Southeast. Ahead of the front, warm temperatures and plenty of moisture is still available for an isolated severe threat this weekend. For Saturday, the greatest threat will be along the warm front in Georgia and the Carolinas. Biggest threat will be winds and hail. However, an isolated tornado threat could be possible. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/1-1762657535739.png">Storms should begin to wind down after midnight as storms slide into the Outer Banks of North Carolina. For Sunday, the cold front slices through the Atlantic coast of the Southeast to bring another severe weather threat producing a few reports of winds and hail. Weekend Severe Threat Across the South

Arctic air is set to take a deep dive into the Southern United states. Millions of Americans will be impacted by these cooler temperatures this weekend through next week. This cold outbreak is being driven by a strong upper-level low dipping southward from Canada, allowing frigid polar air to surge into the central and eastern portions of the country. This low will also help to drive multiple cold fronts across the country. There will be widespread subfreezing temperatures overnight, with many regions experiencing daytime highs that will struggle to climb above the freezing mark.&nbsp;<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-08 072835-1762612121598.jpg">In some areas, temperatures could run 20 to 30 degrees below average, especially across the Plains, Midwest, and Great Lakes region.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/1-1762644279960.png">Monday and Tuesday's lows will plummet into the 20s, 30s, and 40s all the way to the Central Gulf Coast States and Florida. Numerous frost and freeze alerts will be issued ahead of the coldest air - protect sensitive plants.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-08 073012-1762612288445.jpg">Farther south, the cold air will bring the season’s first frost and freeze to areas that typically remain mild into late fall. The combination of Arctic high pressure and strong cold advection will make the air feel even colder, with wind chill values dipping into the single digits in northern states.&nbsp;<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-08 073032-1762612306042.jpg">This early blast of winter is a reminder that the transition from autumn to winter can happen abruptly when large-scale atmospheric patterns align. People should prepare by checking heating systems, protecting exposed pipes, and dressing in multiple insulating layers to guard against hypothermia and frostbite. Arctic Blast To Bring Freezing Air to Millions of Americans

Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. The lake effect snow season has arrived, with heavy snow expected this weekend and into early next week. Watches and advisories have been issued on the southern sides of Lake Superior and Lake Michigan, with alerts around Lakes Erie and Ontario likely to be issued soon as well. Snow in these areas could top 8-12" in some locations, with heavy snowfall rates likely reducing visibility at times, making travel very difficult.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/pic6-1762648212683.png"><h1>How Lake Effect Works</h1>Water has a much higher heat capacity than air, meaning it takes more time to warm up and cool down. This leads to "mild" water temperatures in the Great Lakes while the air overhead can be much cooler. As the cold, dry air moves over these areas, it's able to evaporate moisture from the lakes until it condenses into clouds and precipitation before falling out over land. Typically, we need at least a 13° F difference between the lake water and the air aloft (around 1500 m, or 4500-5000 ft) for lake effect snow to form. This weekend, the difference will be close to 35-45°!<h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-08 060323-1762608655882.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-08 060332-1762608670553.png">Forecast</h1>Lake effect snow begins to develop late Saturday as the cold air begins to filter farther south with stronger northerly flow. Sunday will see additional lake effect snow develop as the cold continues to spill in, eventually turning mixed rain and snow showers to all snow. As the winds shift slightly from the NNE late Sunday into Monday, Chicago could see some intense lake effect snow drift over downtown from the lakeshore. This is completely dependent on a shortwave around the upper-level low providing those NNE winds, so if that shifts a bit, Chicago may get missed. Other areas more certain to see some heavy accumulations include locations on the SSE sides of the lakes, and on the SE side of Lake Ontario. Winds shift back to the North and NW by Monday, bringing the heavier snow into Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/New Baron Video 3-1762657390770.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Impacts to travel can be expected, especially along the I-90 corridor where major impacts are possible in NW Indiana. Heavy Lake Effect Snow for the Great Lakes

A system has been bringing snow across the Plains and Midwest on Saturday. This same system will continue to push through the Great Lakes into Sunday morning. Some areas have already seen some snow accumulation in the last 24 hours.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/pic6-1762642526724.png">Moderate rainfall and lighter snow will continue to drift east with the low-pressure system into Saturday night and Sunday morning. <video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/FORECAST-1762633208979.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>Winds &amp; Temperatures</h1>Afternoon highs will struggle to warm out of the 30s for most areas impacted by the precipitation. Keep in mind, another feature of quick systems like these is gusty winds. Midwest Clipper Brings Light Snow, Gusty Winds

Secondary severe weather season is underway across the U.S. - so called because it typically pales in comparison to the primary severe weather season in the spring. However, the fall can provide high-end severe weather threats of its own, including the December 2021 tornado outbreak. Thankfully, the severe weather setup for now through Sunday doesn't look to be on the high-end, but a few scattered severe storms will be possible.<hr><h1>Severe Storm Outlooks/Hazards</h1>Early morning severe storms will be possible along the cold front driving south. Large hail and damaging winds will be possible with any severe storms and the severe risk should diminish by sunrise.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/PIC 2-1762564233131.jpg">The threat for isolated severe storms will continue Saturday into Sunday as the cold front is dragged through the south. A series of atmospheric rivers has been responsible for wet, windy, and snowy weather in the northwestern U.S over the last few weeks. Our system is currently moving through Washington, Oregon, and the northern tier of California, bringing heavy rainfall and snow. Above is the forecast rainfall totals for the next several days. Gold Beach in Oregon has already picked up 2.51" of rainfall in the past 24 hours.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web1-1762440546220.png">With multiple inches of rain on the way, the Weather Prediction Center is monitoring coastal areas at a level 1, MARGINAL, risk for excessive rainfall that may lead to flash flooding.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-05 095854-1762361963192.png"><h2>Timing</h2>Precipitation across the Northwest should continue for the next few hours. Conditions will slowly improve Friday into the weekend before we gear up for the next round of Pacific moisture next week. <video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/New Baron Video 3-1762471781966.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>Snow</h1>As some of that moisture makes its way into the higher elevation mountains, it will likely mean heavy snow for the mountains. Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. NORTHEAST - The Storm Prediction Center has maintained an overnight MARGINAL (level 1 out of 5) risk for severe weather overnight across portions of the northeastern U.S. for a few gusty storms that could reach severe limits as our cold front exits.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/main threattttt-1762392343860.png"><h2>Wind + Fire Danger</h2>Widespread wind alerts remain in place through Thursday. Some airports have been experiencing delays because of the strong winds. If you have any travel plans, be sure to check for updates and delays.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-05 173942-1762389589730.png">Due to some drier conditions further south and the potential for gusty winds, several red flag warnings have been issued. This will come with an elevated risk for wildfires in the highlighted area.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-05 123501-1762371317120.png"><h2>Round 2 - Friday</h2>Our next frontal system is expected to move into the northeast as we head into the end of the week. Windy and Stormy Weather For The Northeast

Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

A high-pressure system across the central United States has locked in the heat and multiple records along with it. Records have been broken and some cities have seen temps upwards of 30 plus degrees above average! As the winds continue to stream in from the south, we will see a few more days of record warmth before temps plummet down. It will be a roller coaster ride this week with temps up and down! Today, Texas saw multiple records including cities like Laredo, Abilene, and Dallas which all saw temps soar into the 90s! <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/02/texasrrecord highs 2-1709000161220.png">Expect more record warmth on Tuesday across the Midwest, north, and south. Wednesday, we see the list of potential records sticking mainly to the Northeast. This will be anywhere from 15-35° above average!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/02/recorfd tuesday -1709000507401.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/02/record wednesday -1709000516931.png">A cold front from the swopping in from Canada is going to become a major player in bringing the temps down. Some temperatures will plummet big time! Denver drops from near 70 today to 40s by Tuesday. Minneapolis will see temps in the 20s by Wednesday, and Chicago will drop from the 70s to 30s!
