Hurricane Season started out in the Pacific basin, right on schedule. The season officially kicked off May 15 and a mere 5 days into the season, we have our first area to monitor. The area off of the western coast of Mexico (above) is being watched for potential tropical development this weekend into early next week. As of right now, it's a fairly low-end chance that this turns into a tropical cyclone, but one worth watching. Some long-range models have a system closing off and pushing west over the holiday weekend coming up. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/05/Screenshot 2025-05-20 073600-1747748170816.png">This far out, take any model output with a BOULDER of salt. The season normally ramps up slowly in the Eastern Pacific basin, with a few peaks in mid-August and late September.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/05/Screenshot 2025-05-20 073348-1747748094171.png">If anything were to gain a name from the National Hurricane Center, Alvin with be the first one up in the Pacific.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/05/Screenshot 2025-05-20 070214-1747748273874.png">

A strong area of low pressure and cold front continues moving East through Tuesday with a large risk for severe weather across multiple states.<h1>Today</h1>On Tuesday, we remain at an ENHANCED (level 3 out of 5) risk for severe weather across portions of the Tennessee River and Lower Mississippi River Valley. The warm sector could support a few bowing segments capable of producing wind damage, and the threat of large hail and tornadoes continues, too.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/05/Screenshot 2025-05-19 121835-1747678733222.png">Impacts from wind will be felt widespread with winds near 60 mph expected. The hail and tornado threat will be more isolated but are expected to be significant. Meaning large hail and long duration, powerful tornado potential. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/05/Web 1-1747742608206.png">Know where to go in case of a tornado or severe storm warning and review your emergency kits to ensure they include essential supplies like flashlights, batteries, a weather radio, and first aid items. ENHANCED (level 3 out of 5) Risk for Severe Storms

Showers and storms will rumble through Tuesday, packing not only a severe punch but also an efficient rain-producer punch. Loads of moisture will mean storms will come in plenty wet, but it's the multiple-round aspect that brings the flooding.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/05/tomer tn valley moisture-1747698710019.jpg">Sprinkle on top a touch of orographic lift off of the Ozark Mountains in the area, and you have a bad recipe over the next few days. A flood watch has already been issued before the first drops have fallen.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/05/Web 4-1747745766559.png">3 to 6 inches of grand total rainfall will be possible, with some localized areas potentially surpassing those numbers.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/05/Web 6-1747745786875.png">The rainfall won't be as intense the farther north you find yourself, up to Minnesota and the Dakotas. What the rain lacks in intensity will be made up in effort, with persistent rain driving up totals. The threat of flooding will nudge eastward on Tuesday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/05/Web 5-1747745826235.png">Like every flooding situation, never try to cross water over the roadways, since only a foot of it is needed to float your vehicle. Know your risk in your home if you need to seek higher ground when a Flash Flood Warning is issued for your location.

Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. Our stretch of record heat will persist through the work week across states including Texas, Louisiana, and Florida. ARIZONA - The Governor of Arizona has issued a State of Emergency for the Greer Fire, burning in Apache County, as the fire surpasses 20k acres. This fire began on May 13, 2025 and was driven by wind pushing it east-northeast. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/05/Web 3-1747744708863.png">According to the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management, the fire continues to burn in the region. <div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1924508637516493085" src="https://x.com/azstateforestry/status/1924508637516493085"></div>CALFIRE was responding to the Honey Fire, a new fire named the Idria Fire popped up and needed to be responded to as well. Late Spring Snow Blankets the Western Mountains

The state of Alabama is prone to seeing various types of weather from severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and winter weather. For college, Jesse attended the University of South Alabama where he received his degree in Broadcast Meteorology along with minors in Math and Geography.
