This week is WeatherNation's Hurricane Preparedness Week and we are bringing you the latest on the forecast, science behind storms, how to best prepare and stay safe for the upcoming season. Our field correspondents Ben McMillan and Josh Morgerman are on the Gulf Coast this week, looking back at some of the most powerful storms to hit the U.S. in recent years. Each Day they will bring us stories of survival and resiliency from hard hit communities.

Thursday: Panama City & Mexico Beach, Florida (Michael)

Five years later Panama City and Mexico Beach Florida are still rebuilding following monster CAT 5 Hurricane Michael in 2018. Ben McMillan sat down with the city about how their recovery is hitting its stride.

Wednesday: Gulfport & Bay St. Louis (Katrina)

Our Hurricane Tour continues as Josh Morgerman speaks with a couple that survived Hurricane Camille and Katrina's storm surge by cutting a hole in their attic to survive.

We look back at Gulfport, MS which was hit by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and how the city recovered from the deadly storm.

Tuesday: Lake Charles, LA (Laura, Delta)

In 2020 and 2021, the state of Louisiana got hit by 4 hurricanes in just over a year. Just 3 years later, Josh Morgerman revisits the city of Lake Charles telling the stories of the Louisiana survivors that just couldn't catch a break.

In 2020 Lake Charles, LA was struck by two hurricanes that destroyed the city a little under 3 years ago. The city is continuing to rebuild after widespread damage. Ben McMillan spoke with the Public Information Officer about what this city still has to rebuild.

Monday: Rockport & Port Aransas, Texas (Harvey)

We look back at Hurricane Harvey, the return of the American Hurricane.

Ben sat down with a family who evacuated the morning Harvey hit and their home was destroyed in the storm. Now 6 years later they look back at that time in their lives and their advice to others facing a storm.
