Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

It has been an incredible year for space phenomena! <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.weathernationtv.com/news/eclipse-2024">The Eclipse</a> captured the country's interest in April before two incredible displays of the Aurora Borealis down to Southern Latitudes in both <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.weathernationtv.com/news/aurora-borealis-stuns-Friday-Night">May</a> and <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.weathernationtv.com/news/northern-lights-put-on-dazzling-show-thursday-night">October</a>. Now, stargazers and astronomy lovers could be treated to one of the best comets of the decade through late October. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/Screenshot 2024-10-12 125001-1728759013410.png">Comet C / 2023 (A3), also known as Comet <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://blogs.nasa.gov/Watch_the_Skies/2024/10/02/ancient-oort-cloud-comet-to-make-first-documented-pass-by-earth-in-mid-october/">Tsuchinshan-ATLAS,</a> last passed the earth about 80,000 years ago, but was only discovered last year! This Oort cloud comet has been gracing the morning skies in the Southern Hemisphere over the last few weeks as it approached and moved around the sun. The comet is now passing Earth at it's closest distance in its current orbit and is now expected to move away and slowly fade from view. Because of this movement away from Earth, seeing the comet earlier in the month will likely provide the best viewing conditions!<h1>How to See the Comet</h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/Comet-C-2023-A3-Map-ST-version-1728759033662.jpg">Timing for this event will be important, as the comet will only be visible for a short time in the evening before it dips below the horizon, especially earlier in the month. For the first few nights of viewing, the comet will appear low on the western horizon to the right of Venus (by about two fists held at arm's length). Be sure to be ready around sunset with a clear western horizon and something to be able to zoom in, like binoculars or a telescope. If you're lucky, it may be visible to the naked eye, but the tail may not be visible unless you use magnifying equipment.<h1>October 12th</h1>People around the country with clear skies were able to view and photograph the comet on Saturday evening!<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1845392294288974045" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1845392294288974045"></div>As the month continues, the comet will gradually appear higher above the western horizon, but it is expected to fade as the month progresses. A few thunderstorms may be severe across the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic on Sunday evening. The biggest threat will be wind and hail. This is as a cold front working across the eastern U.S. Cooler dry, morefall-like air will impact most of the Great Lakes behind this system! <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/Severe -1728815041608.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/Wind and hail -1728815051337.png">Model guidance differs greatly on the degree of storm coverage, however the environment is favorable for severe development. The area could experience winds up to 60 mph and small hail with any developing storms. Likely, not to be a washout situation but isolated in nature. Sunday is starting off on the cooler side across the North Central U.S. Freeze Warnings issued for parts of North Dakota and a few counties of South Dakota as overnight temps dropped to the mid/upper 20s. Frost Advisories/Freeze Watches have been issued for a wider region for widespread overnight cool temperatures Sunday evening into early Monday AM.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/Frost and Freeze-1728817875828.png">Over the next few days, we are watching a low-pressure system and a cold front advancing eastward across the Great Lakes and East Coast. Finally Feeling like Fall in the North

Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. PHOENIX, AZ - Phoenix has currently undergone more than 2 full weeks of record-breaking temperatures. Saturday, Phoenix's high temperature rose to 104° which breaks the previous record of 103°. It makes 19 consecutive days Phoenix has had a new daily high-temperature record! <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/1-1728788815351.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/Record Heat -1728816060000.png">Over time, the temperatures have continued to drop closer to average but we have still been able to beat previous records. This trend continues into this week, which will be a much-needed break from the extreme heat across the southwest. The intense heat will start to build in areas of the Southern Plains.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/1-1728788858986.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/1-1728788888764.png">Back in Phoenix, the chances for record-breaking numbers will continue. Wild fires continue to burn late in the season in Wyoming, including the Elk Fire and the Pack Fire as weather conditions haven't really felt like fall the last 2 months. The Pack Fire has likely become a complex fire now that it has joined acreage with a fire that was previously burning to the north. Together, these fires have burned over 140k acres. The Elk fire is burning in the Big Horn National Forest. Weather should moderate to help fire crews over the next few days get better containment, but both of these fires are burning in heavy timber. Smoke and air quality is an ongoing concern. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/WY Fire-1728819888075.png">BOISE, ID—The Valley Fire, a new fire east of Boise, Idaho, started on Friday, October 4th. It is located along Highway 21 near Highland Valley Summit (SE of Boise). The NWS encourages citizens to avoid the area while crews work on containment.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/boise fire-1728819858172.png">Air Quality Alerts remain in effect in close proximity to burning fires, due to lofted wildfire smoke. This smoke is expected to get caught in the jet stream and occasionally push into places like Denver and Rapid City.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/Screenshot 2024-10-10 142231-1728591755915.png">Meanwhile, fires continue to burn across Southern California. The Line Fire, which has had trouble containing, continues to burn. While tropical activity in the Atlantic normally tends to trend down through October, impactful systems can and do occur during the final two months of hurricane season.<h1>Atlantic Ocean</h1>For more information on Milton in the Gulf, <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.weathernationtv.com/news/tropical-trouble-returns-to-the-caribbean">click here</a>.<h2>Disturbance #1: Eastern Atlantic</h2>A tropical wave has struggled to become better organized near the west coast of Africa. This still has a small window to become a depression as it moves through the Cabo Verde Islands, but harsh conditions are expected to weaken the system as it moves farther west. It's not out of the question that this wave could get organized again as it gets closer to the Caribbean toward the end of next week.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/Screenshot 2024-10-12 115022-1728755429147.png">Forecast models keep Invest 94-L on a westward trajectory, approaching the Caribbean next Thursday/Friday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/1-1728701682980.png"><h2>Remnants of Leslie</h2>Leslie continues moving northeast over the Central Atlantic with no coastal alerts or hazards to the US expected. The storm is now post-tropical, which means there will no longer be any advisories issued from the National Hurricane Center. However, Leslie could impact the Azores as a tropical storm and could bring heavy rain to southwestern Europe next week. Impacts for the Azores are expected Sunday into Monday, with mid-week impacts possible in Europe.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/Screenshot 2024-10-12 115151-1728755525282.png"><h1>Looking Ahead</h1>The Climate Prediction Center has released their 2-week and 3-week tropical outlooks for the Atlantic and Pacific, and currently there is low confidence on any tropical formation. More than 20 years later he is extremely fortunate and blessed to be able to live his childhood dream. As a lover of math and science, Steve had a consistent interest in weather in elementary, middle, and high school before discovering you can major in meteorology. He attended Lyndon State College in Vermont where he received a bachelor's in meteorology-broadcasting and associate's in television news. He has worked as a meteorologist and reporter in Winchester, VA, Burlington, VT, and most recently in West Palm Beach, FL. While Hurricane Milton was approaching Tampa Bay and Sarasota on Wednesday, tornadoes were tearing across the eastern part of Florida. A distance of 200 miles away from the storm's center, many Floridians found themselves seeking shelter in the path of numerous tornado warnings.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1844129430874267922" src="https://twitter.com/WeatherNation/status/1844129430874267922"></div>Tornado reports are slowly starting to trickle in from different weather service offices in Florida. Let's start in Fort Pierce. The above VIDEO was an EF-3 tornado with winds of 155 mph. This tornado sadly claimed the lives of several people on Wednesday. The next report (below) is from the Palm Beach Gardens and Wellington, FL area. This tornado was also rated an EF-3 with winds of 140 mph!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/TOr-1728814386439.png"><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1844021346503999978" src="https://twitter.com/WeatherNation/status/1844021346503999978"></div>According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Miami, Florida, there have been at least 55 tornado warnings issued by NWS Miami. Hurricane Milton Produces Numerous Large Tornadoes Across Florida

The <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://science.nasa.gov/solar-system/meteors-meteorites/perseids/">best meteor shower of the year</a> is expected to peak this weekend! The Perseid meteor shower often producers high numbers of meteors and coincides with warm to mild temperatures, making it one of the most satisfying to take in.2024 shouldn't be an exception as the waxing crescent moon will set early enough to allow for excellent conditions.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/08/Screenshot 2024-08-10 113148-1723311247808.png">The peak this year is expected Sunday night into Monday morning, with the best conditions before sunrise on Monday the 12th. Over 50 meteors an hour could be visible under ideal conditions. To reach ideal conditions, find a place far from city lights (light pollution) and give yourself plenty of time to watch. It typically takes 15-20 minutes for eyes to fully adjust to the darkness. Meteors will appear to originate in the Northeast, near the constellation Perseus (hence the name), but try to watch as much of the sky as possible. Bring a lawn chair and some refreshments to make yourself comfortable (bug spray too!).<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/08/Screenshot 2024-08-10 105518-1723308964726.png">Cloud cover may be an issue for some areas in the Midwest, but the South and West Coast look favorable for clear skies.
