Severe Threat Moves East into Atlantic

KEY MESSAGES:

  • Damaging tornadoes hit at least four states Friday evening into Saturday morning.

  • Numerous strong tornadoes hit Mississippi and Alabama on Saturday.

  • Damaging storms will exit the East Coast overnight

The Storm Prediction Center has downgraded to a SLIGHT risk (in yellow, level 2 out of 5) for severe storms through Monday morning across the eastern U.S. The main area to watch will be from North Carolina through the DMV where the highest level of risk is. A tornado watch is set through 1 AM in these areas.

A cold front will continue to usher storms east through Monday morning. The northeastern U.S. storms will last a little longer than the southeastern U.S. as the surface low continues to push through. Spots like New England will continue to see storms through Monday.


The Weather Prediction Center has a SLIGHT risk for excessive rainfall near the Norfolk, VA area through Monday morning for heavy rain that may lead to flooding.
